An authentic working solid polished brass Brunton style explorer’s compass in mahogany box with brass inlay. Often referred to as a Transit compass because it has several distance and height calculations etched into the brass both on top and on the dial under the glass and small bubble level.

A Brunton compass is a precision instrument used by sailors, surveyors and explorers to take accurate strike and dip measurements, bearings and slope angles. It combines a compass with a built-in clinometer for taking both horizontal and vertical angle measurements.
