The classic maritime ship’s lantern used on sailing ships for hundreds of years. Our Chief Lantern is hand machined in heavy-gauge brass, mounted on a solid wood base. The beveled glass panes are protected by a cage of heavy brass bars and opens from the front. This makes changing the light bulb burner easy.
The Chief Lantern would often be used in place of the more popular “Cargo Lamp” in many areas of a ship. Often used as a cabin lantern or as a source of light on deck. Anywhere a dependable wind-proof lantern was needed. Generally a well constructed brass or copper lantern that would burn oil or kerosene for many hours before needing to be refilled, whale oil being the fuel of preference. (We will not supply you with whale oil).
