Solid Brass Port (Red) and Starboard (Green) Navigation Oil Lamps

These are the classic navigation oil lamps required on all vessels that are underway (moving) at night.  The Left side of a vessel is called the "Port" side and requires a Red light while the Right side is called the "Starboard" side and requires a Green light.

They tend to vary with the size of the vessel. On smaller boats they are small and on some larger sailing ships they are large enough to almost crawl inside of.

Visibility is essential to safe passage of vessels at night. The colored lights on a vessel give others a good idea of which way the vessel is facing or moving.

Our Solid Brass Red and Green  lamps are hand machined medium gauge brass with a heavy glass "Fresnel" style lenses that magnifies the light from the oil lamp inside to be visible for 20 nautical miles.

Lamps such as these were used on board sailing ships for hundreds of years and are still in use today on sailing ships worldwide.
